NOTICE: Construction Activity 10/24-10/25 Rail Road Crossing

To SRRA Members:

Please be aware that on 24 and 25 October the company implementing the Rail Trail upgrade will be installing a culvert across Spur Ranch Road immediately west of the Railroad Tracks. The construction is being undertaken under contract with Santa Fe County and is being monitored by ‘Trails and Open Space’ personnel of Santa Fe County.  The culvert installation plan is designed to keep one lane of traffic open at all times but please be aware that ignoring the stops signs at the level crossing may be unwise (as always) but especially during this construction phase of Rail Trail upgrading.

Upcoming Road Work and Announcements

Grading Spur Ranch Road
and a
Call for new Association Board members

Please be aware that there will be heavy road equipment working on Spur Ranch Monday or Tuesday 23 or 24 September, 2019.  Owing to the increased commercial traffic and the speed at which our neighbors and the commercial traffic drive, the road has developed significant wash boarding. This wash boarding will be graded down and smoothed during the planned grading operation.
Please give the road workers lots of room to maneuver safely – the equipment they operate is heavy and the operators will be focused on creating a smooth road surface.
At the Annual General meeting in late fall, 2019 there will be an election of new Spur Ranch Road Association Board members – two members, having been on the Board since the Association was formed in 2011, are stepping down.  Your Association needs voting members to step up to carry forward the maintenance and upkeep of Spur Ranch Road for all the property owners and residents using Spur Ranch Road to access their property, homes and businesses.  You’ll recall that in order to vote or to run for a Board position, your 2019 dues must be paid in fullBeing a Board member means focusing on the quality and safety of the road, soliciting funding for ongoing maintenance, upkeep and repair and responding to members’ questions about the road. Please contact any of the current Board members for information on the responsibilities and workload of Board members.

Please observe the maximum safe speed limit of 30 MPH and drive slowly and safely!

Upcoming Road Work and Call for New Board Members

Clearing Ditches and Grading Spur Ranch Road
and a
Call for new Association Board members

Please be aware that there will be heavy road equipment working on Spur Ranch Road Monday and Tuesday, 19 and 20 August 2019.  The ditches have silted up during the monsoon rains and pose a flooding danger to the roadbed with any additional rains.  The ditches will be cleaned out and the road graded, re-crowned, watered and compacted in preparation for fall and winter weather.

Please give the road workers lots of room to maneuver safely – the equipment they operate is heavy and they will be focused on creating a stable road surface.

You’ll recall that in order to vote or to run for a Board position, your 2019 dues must be paid in full.  Please contact any of the current Board members for information on the responsibilities and workload of Board members; being a Board member is not arduous!

Portion of Santa Fe Rail Trail to be Closed
Improvement will make for a better experience

Caution: Road Grading In Progress

NOTICE - Spur Ranch Road Grading

Please know that, owing to the lack of moisture and the excessive speed of vehicles on Spur Ranch Road, the wash-boarding in many places on the road is currently severe.

Your SRRA Directors are aware of these conditions and have arranged for a light ‘skim’ grading to remove the wash-boarding.

Use caution when driving around heavy equipment please use slower speeds due to the road conditions.

Please be careful as you may be required to cross over into the opposite lane and may need to drive over windrows of soil.

Thank you,
Spur Ranch Road Association Directors

Please drive carefully

Following this morning’s snow Spur Ranch Road may be snow-packed, icy & slippery.  Following the warmer weather forecast the snow will melt and the road will be muddy & slippery;  please drive according to the conditions of the road -  slowly and carefully.

Spur Ranch Road will be graded from US 285 to Ave. de Compadres as soon as the freeze-thaw cycle is complete and the road surface is at optimal moisture content.

Spur Ranch Road Warning

Dear Neighbor,

Spur Ranch Road is very slippery in spots because of melted snow which has turned to ice when the temperature dropped below freezing. The "S" curve just west of Rte 285 is especially slippery, and more than one vehicle has slid off the road. Please use common sense and test your vehicle's traction by applying brakes on a flat part of the road. In my Dodge Durango SUV with all-wheel drive, I kept the speed to 5mph while I drove west through the S-curve. This afternoon (2pm), the snow on the road is melting rapidly. This evening, when the temperature drops below freezing, it will turn to ice. SO PLEASE BE CAREFUL!
